Confirmed from The Preserve at Vassar's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (69 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

well-maintained 3 mentions

“It was a great walk, beautiful surroundings, clean, friendly people on the path.”

🏞️ beautiful scenery 4 mentions

“It’s often muddy and has lots of hills but it’s a gorgeous hike and I’ve seen a lot of cool animals around.”

I’m a student at Vassar College and I go here as often as I can, usually every two weeks or so when the weather’s nice. It’s often muddy and has lots of hills but it’s a gorgeous hike and I’ve seen a lot of cool animals around.

Great place to take a walk. Parking can be limited at times, but you can choose to walk on their regular path, bike , or even take a walk through the woods. They have it laid out so you can see the difficulty in the trails.

★★★★★ — Christina , Jul 2019

Great time ripping around on the bike trails. No cost to enjoy. I saw a lot of people tending to their gardens which was fun to watch.

★★★★★ — Damian , Sep 2023

I had a relaxing walk to the beaver pond, got to see lots of birds 🐦 and looking forward to returning and exploring other trails!

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

Plan your run at The Preserve at Vassar

The practical stuff

  • AccessDawn to dusk — the gates close, so do not plan a run that finishes after dark
  • SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
