Confirmed from Tortolita Preserve Trailhead's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Tortolita Preserve Trailhead

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (120 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 8 mentions

“Runnable path that is well marked and gorgeous desert views .”

🪧 well-marked 2 mentions

“The well-marked paths and peaceful atmosphere made for a wonderful walk.”

Walk counterclockwise so that you can see the bikes coming. I highly encourage you to not bring dogs to this particular location as there’s just a ton of bikes and it would be challenging to not have your pup in the way.

★★★★★ — April , Apr 2024

Hiked. Courteous Mtn Bikers and evidence of a horse recently on the trail. One of the more beautiful and lush areas of desert.

★★★★★ — Jae , Mar 2023

For runners considering the full loop, my Garmin recorded 9.64 miles and 584 ft total ascent. I recommend running clockwise (west first instead of north towards the Tortolitas) so you can see the bicyclists coming at you, as they all seem to go counterclockwise.

Well maintained and marked trails. Beautiful views of the city. Stay hydrated and enjoy.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
