Confirmed from Turkeyfoot Preserve - Darke County Parks' own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Turkeyfoot Preserve - Darke County Parks

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (37 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 3 mentions

“Love the beautiful trail.”

🌾 quiet & peaceful 4 mentions

“Nice place for quiet walks in the woods!”

Nice easy walk, one stretch of the trail is diverted around a wet area and it's a bit rough as it wasn't cut flat to the ground so be cautious as it's easy to trip on small stumps from the shrubs that were cut. Aside from that it's a nice area for a family walk.

★★★★★ — Jackie , Aug 2022

Turkeyfoot is a small but very pretty nature preserve. There is a simple loop hiking trail, mostly through a prairie. There is not a lot of shade during the summer, try to visit in the morning or evening, and bring plenty of water.

★★★★☆ — Michael , Nov 2018

We really enjoyed the Preserve, the trails were well maintained. Boots may be needed if it's been very rainy. The history of the Preserve intrigued us as much as the Preserve itself.

★★★★★ — Wendy , Apr 2024

Winding trails under the beating sun, equipped with fenced bovine, and a platform for previewing the seamless progression of prairie grasslands into the canopy of trees.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

🏞️ Scenic views 4 mentions

“There’s a small observation deck that overlooks the grasslands.”
