Love this trail! Most of it is not flat or have an even footing so I would say it's more more intermediate/advanced for sure. I live for a good challenge. This trail has inclines/declines, places where you have to reach to step up or down, bridges over water, areas of clay where its washed out creating "stairs",…
Nice trail for a hike. Mostly well maintained, a few downed trees across the trail. Some elevation change but only around 150'. Lightly used, we usually don't see anyone once past the 2 mile point. It's right at 6 miles to Airey Lake campground; first spot with water and restrooms.
The trail is very well maintained. You don't have to push hedge or briars out of the way and there are several places with beautiful views of creeks and swampy areas. You can detour a bit to get close to the water's edge and come back.
We had a nice hike here on a Thursday afternoon in March. We only saw 6 people and 3 dogs. The trail is wide and well marked, but not suit for strollers or wheelchairs. It is a hike and not a walk. You start in a pine forest that blends into a deciduous forest and then pine scrub in the first few miles.
