Confirmed from Valley Woods Nature Preserve's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Park featuring kid-friendly hiking trails.
What runners say about Valley Woods Nature Preserve
The sign into the walking path is really hard to see in Southfield off Civic Center Drive as it's over grown with various plants. This is a really nice trail, Johnny rev and I took the dirt trail versus the paved. You can still hear all the cars but the trees, water and wildlife are beautiful.
Nice place for a short walk along the river. Watch out for mud under the Civic Center overpass after a big rainstorm it can be very messy. An older DNR sign states there are tagged smallmouth bass at this site but I don't think it is true anymore.
Nice quiet hidden gem. Walking trails make for a woodsy experience in an unlikely place. Find some nature below the concrete.
The trail is nice. Don't follow it too far. It just spits you out between highways. Good time until then though.

- SurfaceMixed — more than one surface along the route, so check the segment you plan to run
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
