Confirmed from Welwyn Preserve's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Wooded preserve on a former estate, with nature trails & a Holocaust museum in a 1913 mansion.
What runners say about Welwyn Preserve
“It was a different experience, fascinating to see some of the old buildings and machinery (probably old furnaces), and even some beautiful graffiti.”
“Beautiful scenery but trails are not clearly marked, and your thrown off when you see there is a holocaust museum that gps brings you to.”
“A beautiful and peaceful place.”
On arrival the signs did not match Google maps, although the gates were still open so rather than turning around we went though, I figured we could loop back as it's a one way. The house was fascinating but very eerie for some reason.
I loved it here. Amazing nature with so much life. Great trails, holocaust memorial museum and garden , abandoned green house, and sand beach, field, etc. Highly recommend. So many rabbits, butterflies, chipmunks, birds, etc.
Nice hiking trails including down to the beach. Well marked and in the very cold weekend day we went parking was no issue.
We had a lot of fun walking the trails. 2 or 3 abandoned places that are very open and a few people walking around. Lots of cute little bridges and knocked down tree trucks that you walk across to cross the small stream. I enjoyed seeing all the graffiti near the old garden.

“The only reason it isn't a 5 star review is because there are no bathrooms here!”
“There is a big parking lot and lots of signs indicating you're being watched by various cameras.”
“You can choose the paved road down to the beach if you dont want to hike.”

The practical stuff
- AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
- SurfacePaved — asphalt or concrete. Fast and predictable, runnable year-round, and fine with a stroller
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- At the trailheadparking, restrooms — reported by runners
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
