Confirmed from West Ashley Greenway's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
What runners say about West Ashley Greenway
“Beautiful scenery and perfect for birding :)”
Great trail! Beautiful views! Bicycles, walking, jogging, dog walking, even some fishing spots along to catch something good. I can imagine this would also be a great place for wildlife watching. Trail is mostly flat with few large rocks or obstacles.
Really cool spot if you want a long walk, run or bike ride. It was a bit crowded for my particular tastes. I like quieter hikes so my dog isn't distracted a lot, but definitely a good place if people and bikes going by doesn't bother you.
A dead flat bike and hike trail along an old railway bed. It is just a bit under 8 miles one way. The east end is near the Porter Gaus school and the West end peters out a bit before Stono river park. The roadbed goes farther west so the trail may eventually be extended as well.
Nice trail! Bike friendly. Walker/jogger friendly. Dog friendly. Fishing friendly. Crabbing friendly. Cast net friendly. No unauthorized motorized vehicles allowed on trail. Trail runs from Main Road, John's Island all the way to Porter Gaud High School baseball field. Sick! 8 miles long.

The practical stuff
- AccessHours vary — hours are not posted for this trail, so check before an early or late run
- SurfaceMixed — more than one surface along the route, so check the segment you plan to run
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.

- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
