Confirmed from Whalen Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Whalen Park

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (104 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 11 mentions

“Great view, amazing trail, and great little hiding spots under the trees in the shade”

Newer playground for the kids, with basketball and tennis courts in good repair. Restrooms are available, but not sure if they are unlocked yet. We were there for the walking trail along the river. It's paved and fairly flat, but could stand to be at least 50% wider.

★★★★☆ — Tim , Apr 2023

The pathway is paved and surrounded by trees. During the fall season it’s like walking through a postcard feeling. You get the view of the St. Lawrence river to one side and the Massena Country club on the other.

★★★★★ — Marilyn , Nov 2020

Great little park. Nice playground for kids, a double tennis court, a full size basketball court, nice pavilion with restrooms and eight tables, a free standing barbeque, a few individual tables under the trees, several strategically placed benches where you can sit and watch the St Lawrence River with the large boats…

★★★★★ — Leona , Jun 2021

Beautiful park, nice playground. There is also a pavilion with bathrooms. The walking path is a nice length, paved for strollers or bikes, etc. There is a beach toward the end of the path that was fun to explore.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
