Confirmed from Wheeler Nature Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

Nice small hidden trail right next to a nice dog park and just across Veterans Memorial Park. Plenty of parking, dog friendly (must be on the leash). Nice easy walk with a great view of mount Mansfield. Great way to get a break from the city and reconnect with nature.

The children's nature park area here is magical for little kids, and it one of our favorite places to go as a family! There are a variety of play areas made with different natural materials like stones and logs.

I'm new in town and it was late so I picked this park for my run. The grassy trails weren't suitable for running but it did lead to a nice bike path that runs along a golf course. I've noticed bike paths all around this park so I recommend. Get your run in on the bike path and relax by walking on the grassy trails.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

Plan your run at Wheeler Nature Park

The practical stuff

  • AccessDawn to dusk — the gates close, so do not plan a run that finishes after dark
  • SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • At the trailheadparking — reported by runners
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
