Confirmed from White Rocks Trail's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Hiking trail with views and boulders for climbing.
What runners say about White Rocks Trail
“There's a great view of the valley about 20 minutes from the start of the trail.”
“Trail well marked, mostly dark blue, look out for the light blue right turn on the return trail.”
“If you seek more quiet and peaceful hike, I suggest to not go like we did at 9am on a sunny Saturday morning.”
Perfect length for a quick morning or afternoon hike. About 1 mile out, 1 back. First half mild incline or flat, second half incline. Total raise about 400 feet if I remember correctly. Trail well marked, mostly dark blue, look out for the light blue right turn on the return trail.
Very cool trail for beginners and experienced hikers alike. There are many areas where it is flat, but the majority of the trek will be going up and over big rocks. The trail is not difficult. it just adds an extra layer of fun for the kids.
A great trail! This was an unplanned stop... Went with our kids (10&12yo) and they loved climbing all the boulders along the way. We hiked for about 2 hours, didn't venture off the trail and didn't get any ticks 😁 Really enjoyed it.
This is a fun, well marked trail. GPS took me right to the parking area. There are a lot of rocks to climb, the view is definitely worth the climb. We came across snakes and lizards, nothing too scary.
Trail conditions & character
“Nice view, and very surprising, since I've lived in the area since the late 80s and never knew this existed.”
“The first part has lots of ankle breakers and the actual rocks take a bit of skill, you don't have to actually rock climb to get to the top.”
“The parking lot is ample size to fit around 15+ autos at the trailhead and has good signage.”
“We came as a group of 5 adults & our medium size older dog and could all do the hike no problem and didn’t even get winded.”
“This trail was freaking awesome but it's where i got lost and couldn't find the white markers back to the Appalachian trail.”
“- the only steep section is getting up to the ridge, the ridge itself, though rocky is fairly level with some good scrambling.”
“-It is extremely rocky, from small, almost gravel stones, to ankle twisting mind fields, to scrambling boulders.”
“If you seek more quiet and peaceful hike, I suggest to not go like we did at 9am on a sunny Saturday morning.”

The practical stuff
- AccessOpen 24 hours — no gate to beat, so a 5am or a 10pm run both work
- SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- At the trailheadparking — reported by runners
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
