Confirmed from Alameda / Rio Grande Open Space's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Popular riverside park offering trails, birding and horseback riding.
What runners say about Alameda / Rio Grande Open Space
“I walk here multiple times a week, safe, clean and simply beautiful.”
“Beautiful location to walk, jog, ride bikes, ride horses and to take photos ❤️ So peaceful and fresh”
Great trails, options for paved vs not, really good views and great for strollers, bikes, walking and running. Some trails for horses too!
Amazing place to fish and enjoy the outdoors whether that be hiking, biking, swimming etc. Very peaceful spots if you know where to look!
A nice open space with walking trails, benches and wildlife. Coyotes do prowl the area be aware if you have smaller dogs .
Alameda Rio Grande O.S is in conjunction with the Bosque trail system and other open spaces in between. What a nice area, good to get your shoes muddy in, be it mid November now and after the storm. Yet there are still some bright colors in the magnificent trees.

The practical stuff
- AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
- SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
- Stroller / wheelchairReported as smooth and step-free enough for a running stroller or a chair.
