Confirmed from Alexandra Dawson Conservation Area's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Park with a dike that overlooks the Connecticut River, popular for sunset views.
What runners say about Alexandra Dawson Conservation Area
“Beautiful, flat walk along the Connecticut River with an expansive view of the river and the ridges in the background.”
“This is a beautiful escape into the quiet of nature right in the middle of suburbia.”
You might have seen Connecticut river from a hundred view points but this one stands out to be incredibly spectacular. A long walk by the river banks is guaranteed to heal any anxiety or stress you are having in your monotonous routine.
Watch the colors around you change as you walk along the river path at sunset. This is a great location for a quiet walk; either with someone or alone. There are plenty of pets on the trail, along with signs reminding you that there is private property nearby.
One of the amazing sunset spots overlooking the connecticut river. Highly recommend this place to ones looking for good views of sunset. You usually have to do street parking and walk up a bit to the trails.
Sitting by the river can calm you down. Just check the ground before plopping down. I think people walk their dogs there and use the area as their pets toilet.

The practical stuff
- AccessOpen 24 hours — no gate to beat, so a 5am or a 10pm run both work
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- LightingRunners report lights on the path — useful for pre-dawn and after-work miles. Lighting and opening hours are separate things, so check both.
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
