Confirmed from Alford Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Alford Park

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (241 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 7 mentions

“Just a quiet, beautiful place to relax and tune out for a few minutes.”

🌾 quiet & peaceful 4 mentions

“Always a calm & serene experience being by the lake especially with what's been happening to the world the last year and a half or so.”

Live in Lake County IL less than 4 miles west of the big blue but we come up here sometimes to escape the often overcrowded IL Beach State Park especially when it gets hot enough out. Nice lil beach loaded with plenty of rocks & stones for my 6 year old son to throw in the water.

★★★★★ — Deplorable , Sep 2021

Great for a walk or see what rocks washed up or for a relaxing listen to the waves. Perfect for biking, running, walking, long lakeside trail and great parking everywhere!

★★★★★ — Joe , Jul 2017

Stop here and enjoy the view at this small park on lake Michigan. Recently a shelter has been added. A great place to watch the sunrise or moon on a full moon night. It is right by the walking/jogging/bicycling trail that originated in Chicago and goes northward to Milwaukee. A wonderful break from one's travels.

★★★★★ — Theodore , Dec 2018

First time visiting this location. Fairly long walk from the car but lots of rocks for rock hounding.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

🏞️ Scenic views 11 mentions

“It's a nice little Park to get a nice view of the lake even on a cold day you can just sit in your car and look out towards the lake.”
