Confirmed from Amargosa Trailhead - Horizon Drive's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Amargosa Trailhead - Horizon Drive

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (235 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 10 mentions

“5 for safety do to the harsh desert climate during summers, but still very Beautiful.”

🪧 well-marked 2 mentions

“Trails were well marked and ranged between gentle stroll to steady vertical and slightly strenuous hiking.”

A little out of the way, but worth the journey. Well established trails lead you to some amazing vistas of the city of Henderson and Las Vegas in the distance. Trails are not lit. No water is available. Make sure to bring your own and sun protection. Safe travels.

Perfect place for a 10 minute hike or a 4 hour hike. The main trail is easy, even to the point a good wheel chair might be able to get up it, then there's some more small trails that lead all over the mountain. Good look out point if you can hike for 30mins-1hr to one of the points!

★★★★★ — Payne , Feb 2019

We hiked the trails and enjoyed some pretty spectacular views of the whole valley. Trails were well marked and ranged between gentle stroll to steady vertical and slightly strenuous hiking. We will be back to hike it all again.

★★★★★ — James , Dec 2020

It is a short trail unless you go essentially cross-country. But it is still very nice and the park below is awesome facilities.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

🏞️ Scenic views 21 mentions

“The experience is nice it's Pleasant to walk your dog and it's most definitely Pleasant to capture the view and maybe even meet a new friend.”

The practical stuff

  • AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • LightingRunners report lights on the path — useful for pre-dawn and after-work miles. Lighting and opening hours are separate things, so check both.
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
