Confirmed from Appalachian Trail Boardwalk's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Scenic boardwalk trails for scenic hikes through a swampy area, plus a suspension bridge.
What runners say about Appalachian Trail Boardwalk
“The path is well-maintained, and the experience of being surrounded by nature, especially with the ice glistening everywhere, is unforgettable.”
“Highly recommend this spot for anyone looking to enjoy a unique and scenic outdoor adventure!”
“Easy trail through boardwalks, creeks, train tracks and cows in the field.”
Easy hike that goes through open fields, woods, and over streams. Lots of great views. The terrain is super flat making this a very easy walk. We started at the Heaven Hill Farm's paid parking lot, followed the boardwalk path through the cow field and over the rail road tracks, through the woods and went all the way…
Simple, but pretty landscape. Trail is mainly flat, very easy to walk. Mainly swamp land covered with vegetation that looks like a wheat field, mountains in background, a few streams, and serenity everywhere. A very pleasant experience.
We did this today, had back luck on the weather but I love this place. When it nicer I'd love to come back and hike more. Lots of Red Wing Black Birds singing. Even with rain, the board walk is awesome!
This is a gem of a hike for kids. Easy trail through boardwalks, creeks, train tracks and cows in the field. We started from Glenwood to Heaven hill farm and back. That’s 5 mile trail. Watch out for weather and gears as we got drenched on a sudden pouring.
Trail conditions & character
“Walking along the boardwalk offers breathtaking views of nature, and even in winter, the icy landscape adds a magical touch.”
“As well as some parts of the trail have dirt parts that’s you have to walk on to in order to get to the rest of the boardwalk.”
“I would have liked a ‘loop’ to get back to parking and more trails (less wooden path).”
“3 miles and 900ft climb to the top to the stairway to heaven.”
“However my family and I were only able to make it halfway to the bridge as it’s not stroller/wheelchair accessible.”
“The terrain is super flat making this a very easy walk.”
“There's limited free parking, we used the paid parking at the Farm market ($8 via app), and there's no bathrooms on the trail either (again, try the Farm market instead).”
