Confirmed from Art Cowsen Trailhead's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

🌳 shaded & cool 3 mentions

“It's heavily shaded (huge plus!”

Nice trail that seems never ending which is a good thing. We definitely got some exercise. Beautiful trees and the birds were amazing. Watch out for bikes.

Fantastic trail! This is one of the best waking trails with views of the trinity and plenty of foliage. You can't take this trail all the way to Belair. There is paved walking path as well as lines for traffic flow. There are some smaller paths to walk near the river and a couple bridges to hang out on.

We really enjoyed ourselves, lot to explore and the scenery was great. Excellent walk! Maybe one day we will bring our bikes. We will be regulars!

★★★★★ — Sam , May 2022

It's heavily shaded (huge plus!), clean, and bike, dog and running/walking friendly. There are side trails too if you don't want to stay on the standard cement area. Side note: The park closes at sunset like most parks but I made the mistake of going a little too late and discovered none of the trails are lit.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

The practical stuff

  • AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
  • SurfacePaved — asphalt or concrete. Fast and predictable, runnable year-round, and fine with a stroller
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeRunners describe real tree cover here — it makes a summer afternoon workable
  • At the trailheadparking, restrooms — reported by runners
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
