Confirmed from Arthur L. Janura Preserve's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

I love this place. Is great for long walks. I almost didn't rate this place cause I wanna keep it quiet. But I have to share it.

★★★★★ — Miguel , Aug 2021

Beautiful preserve. We did a bit of the brown loop and the whole yellow loop. About 4.5 miles in total. 70% is in the open prairie. 30% is in trees. Not too many bugs but we did have DEET on. Saw a total of 6 people and a horse on the entire trail on a Saturday AM.

★★★★★ — Sal , Jul 2020

Absolutely beautiful prairie! Less than 1% of the prairies in Illinois remain, and this is one of those hidden gems. Love to hike through the woods to the lake, and go on the bike trail. Nice place to go for walks.

★★★★★ — Roxolana , Sep 2019

You can not find better place for running and cycling. Paved and unpaved tracks. I am lucky enough to have it close to our house and I love it here

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

🛣️ Paved surface 9 mentions

“The path is paved, however there are some crossings of some busy roads at 58 & 59, Barrington & 59, and Shoe Factory & 59.”
