Confirmed from Audubon Bird Sanctuary's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Audubon Bird Sanctuary

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (37 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 11 mentions

“It's probably a beautiful place but it needs better signage both at the site and directionally, along the road up) and to be more people friendly.”

🌾 quiet & peaceful 5 mentions

“Slight incline but definitely worth it, nice peaceful trail”

Great trail, not too hard. Some spots a little muddy. Hard to find the entrance (check out my pic of the location to park-tiny 3 parking spot)

Far off the beaten path. Will try the hawkwatch next time I get up there.

★★★★☆ — Tommy , Oct 2021

My daughter and I frequent the bird sanctuary from spring to fall every year. It can be quite muddy until summer is in full swing, so wear appropriate footwear. Trails are all marked with colors, very easy to follow, and none of it is extremely difficult for your average person.

★★★★★ — Brittany , Jul 2024

Such a beautiful, peaceful place. Wonderful short trails, lots of birdsong, and beautiful views of the wetlands. So many different species of bird and waterfowl can be found year round, though it can get a little breezy up there occasionally shortly after sunrise.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

The practical stuff

  • AccessOpen 24 hours — no gate to beat, so a 5am or a 10pm run both work
  • SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
