Confirmed from Awosting Reserve's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Park offering hiking trails and opportunities to view lake scenery, including fall foliage.
What runners say about Awosting Reserve
“A beautiful section of Minnewaska State Park that has few visitors or entry fee, but also no facilities and no notable views in an area with lots of good ones.”
A beautiful section of Minnewaska State Park that has few visitors or entry fee, but also no facilities and no notable views in an area with lots of good ones. This part of the park was added after a housing development failed in 2005.
Sooooo beautiful!!! But a serious hike or bike ride! It’s about 4+/- miles in each direction from the parking lot. But totally worth it. No dogs allowed on the beach, there is a place to change into a swim suit when you get there.
Excellent hiking trail from the Beech Hill Rd access even for mountain bikes if you don't mind the 3 mile uphill!
Nothing like a good walk in the Gunks and Awosting Reserve offers it all. Scenic walk, challenging or not depending on your level and preference, a real gem. Close to world class rock climbing and a cool college town as an added bonus.

“From the parking area on Aumick Road, you head uphill on an old wood road that winds alongside a brook through thick woods.”
“Here the only marked trail, blazed purple, ascends in a loop.”

The practical stuff
- AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
