Confirmed from Bay Trail Access' own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Relaxed park featuring a paved trail, for walking, running and biking along the bay.
What runners say about Bay Trail Access
“We had a fantastic time taking a leisurely stroll along the beautiful Pacific Ocean.”
“But Bay Trail Access isn't just about the views – it's also a haven for outdoor enthusiasts of all ages.”
Nestled along the picturesque Bay Trail lies a hidden gem: Bay Trail Access. As a frequent visitor, I've been consistently awestruck by its stunning vistas, particularly of the iconic SFO airport. The highlight of Bay Trail Access is undoubtedly its panoramic views of SFO airport.
Great place to walk and watch planes land if you are waiting to pick someone up from the airport.
This is a well maintained trail (smooth) without vehicular traffic, except for other bike peddlers and pedestrians there isn’t a thing to worry about. Get out here and enjoy the public’s Bay Trail with an internationally diverse group of users enjoying our bay.
This place was great. You can walk here, exercise, or sit and count planes that are landing on the San Francisco International Airport. I had a good time here, and there's the sign of City of Burlingame here.
Trail conditions & character
“Should be noted that young children need supervision as there is no barrier at places between the trail and the bay -- but that open view is the obvious attraction.”
“Only down side is parking can be tough to find sometimes.”
“People walking, running, exercising themselves and dogs, enjoying hobbies, and watching planes over the water are just some of the activities on the trail.”

The practical stuff
- AccessOpen 24 hours — no gate to beat, so a 5am or a 10pm run both work
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- At the trailheadparking — reported by runners
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
