Confirmed from Bay Trail's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
What runners say about Bay Trail
Biking starts from Bayland Park l, along the Sunnyvale trail to SF Trail. There's no shade area if you take a walk. It's quite a breeze along the bay, so you won't feel too hot. Suggest to take a walk in the afternoon to enjoy the sunrise scenery.
Can be windy here. But lots of places to explore on a Onewheel from here. Yes, it is an old dump, but it is fun to cruise around and then there are some fun trails that go around the water where there are usually kite surfers doing their thing.

The practical stuff
- AccessOpen 24 hours — no gate to beat, so a 5am or a 10pm run both work
- SurfaceMixed — more than one surface along the route, so check the segment you plan to run
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
