Confirmed from Beck Lake's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Nature preserve with a trail system, lake for fishing, and dog park for Cook County residents.
What runners say about Beck Lake
“Beck Lake is a beautiful lake located along the Des Plaines River Trail.”
“The surrounding trails are peaceful, and the off-leash dog area is a fantastic bonus.”
Beck Lake is a beautiful lake located along the Des Plaines River Trail. There is an island in the Lake. However, public access to the island is denied, as it is a protected wildlife area. I visited Beck Lake today because the weather was abnormally high for the month of March.
Nice and beautiful lake, with beautiful trail. They have a boat launch and plenty of lake access points for fishing. Could see some plastic and leftovers from the fishing around the lake borders. Hope people cleanup after themselves, and help to keep our nature preserves clean.
Beautiful Lake along the Des Plaines River Trail. There's plenty of parking and the area is very clean.
Nice little lake with an -unaccesible- island in the middle. There are paths either way starting by the parking lot next to the lake but I don't think it's a single path that loops around it, hence the 4 stars. There's a hiking path too, you start it and then it forks North- South.
Trail conditions & character
“There is a dog park near to the entrance ( membership details might need to be researched).”

The practical stuff
- AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- At the trailheadparking — reported by runners
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
