Confirmed from Bernheim Forest and Arboretum's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

Beautiful place to get some fresh air and exercise. We stopped to see the Trolls on a road-trip. It was a nice break. There plenty to see. Hike to the 3 trolls was fairly easy with benches along the way if needed. Nice restrooms, a gift shop and snack shop. Small donation to enter.

Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest is easily one of the best family-friendly outdoor destinations in Kentucky. We hiked the Forest Giants Trail to see all three giant wooden trolls — Little Elina, Mama Loumari, and Little Nis — and the kids absolutely loved it.

This place is very majestic! I wish every park and play area would have a tree/nature/living esthetic for their playgrounds like bernheim! The kiddos adored playing on it. I really love the giants, plus the tin man, canopy tree walk, and cafe were all very impressive!!

Fun hike through the woods, especially friendly for kids hiking. What I found fascinating were these roving EcoRover chairs we saw two women riding! It made the trails accessible to them. They said they can travel all kinds of terrains including beaches.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
