Confirmed from Big Spring State Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Big Spring State Park

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (673 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 9 mentions

“Beautiful winding trail that leads to a great view over looking as far as the eye can see.”

This was actually a very pleasant surprise. The website for this park really doesn't do it justice. It's very, very small, but in spite of this they managed to produce around 7 to 8 miles of very enjoyable walking/hiking trails. It's also very easy to find from I-20.

Very nice park to walk around with some really nice views (even though it's a combination of city and nature). Make sure to be hydrated and have water when you go. The big loop isn't hard but it can get you in some spots with the loose rock and changes in elevation.

I recently got a mountain bike and decided to put it to use. This park has a lot to explore. There are walking paths, trails, and scenery. You can sit in the shade at the pavilion (which I took advantage of). It’s pretty hot out here. But it’s beautiful.

Great for trail running. Good cell reception. Only a handful of technical areas. Highly recommend.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

🏞️ Scenic views 19 mentions

“The view is amazing all around on the paved trail, which runs much higher than the more primitive outer loop trail.”
