Confirmed from Black Bear Wilderness Trailhead's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Black Bear Wilderness Trailhead

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (661 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 8 mentions

“Absolutely beautiful view of Florida vegetation.”

🌳 shaded & cool 5 mentions

“It's as if you've transported to the tropics with plenty of canopy shade and wild animals.”

100% worth visiting here. But the full loop of 7.1 miles…is personally not recommended. -I visited here by mid-April, which is the extremely dry season(humidity was only 24%), so the water or swamp level was very low. If you want to do fishing or see gooey swamp, avoid spring. -Free parking. But limited availability.

Absolutely fantastic area. The trail is not difficult but there are tree roots to beware of if not paying attention. The full hike is 7.1 miles but you can easily turn around as needed. We saw so much wildlife! Numerous bird species, gators, deer and even a wild pig.

Great nature trail to take on a cool winter day ! Be forewarned of a couple of things however. The parking lot can get completely jam-packed and outside parking on the street is not permitted. The trails themselves can be potentially treacherous, due to tree roots protruding and some narrow and steep paths.

★★★★☆ — Scott , Jan 2026

Incredible experience. The silence of nature is truly immersive—birds singing, the gentle sound of the lake, and branches rustling with the slightest movement of a passing lizard. It feels like a natural bubble, only occasionally interrupted by the sound of a boat passing along the river. Highly recommended.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
