Confirmed from Black Diamond Trail's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
What runners say about Black Diamond Trail
This trail ranks among the finest, offering an ideal setting for biking, walking, or jogging. Beginning in Ithaca, it extends to the magnificent Taughannock Falls. Having cycled this route multiple times, each journey has brought me immense joy. Residents near Ithaca should definitely explore this trail.
A great trail. Wide, crushed stone path which is nicer than macadam. The dogs and us walked 3.67 miles round trip.
Great stone dust trail along taughannock boulevard The stone dust surface was rough and uneven today August 5, 2023
We had a great ride on the black diamond trail. From the bottom at Tremann park, to the end of the trail at Taugahannock Gorge is 8 miles and you rise 800 feet in elevation, a gradual rise. Mostly shady and the path is good, bridges in great shape. Beautiful views of many draws with water present.

The practical stuff
- AccessOpen 24 hours — no gate to beat, so a 5am or a 10pm run both work
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
