Confirmed from Black Partridge Woods' own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
80-acre park in a ravine by a creek offering trails, a picnic area & a stone bridge.
What runners say about Black Partridge Woods
“Beautiful, wide open woods with tons of interesting flora.”
“Quiet and peaceful place for a hike with a little elevation gain.”
This is truly a peaceful and beautiful place. Hard to believe just a stones throw from the busy downtown lemont and state street Bridge is this nature preserve area. You honestly feel like you are in a completely rural area far from civilization in some parts of the paths and creek beds.
Talk about a great place to go and run from all your problems! Definitely the spot to go!
Actually a pretty rare little micro-climate, it should be better maintained. I've seen some unique slugs and fungi and it seems to be fed by a natural spring, year round creek. Some ravines and islands and elevation changes, maybe 50ft max. Pretty in the early spring before the mosquitoes take over or in the fall.
Nice trails around the area. A creek and solid stone bridge are there. Beautiful valley of the Des Plaines river below

The practical stuff
- AccessDawn to dusk — the gates close, so do not plan a run that finishes after dark
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- At the trailheadparking — reported by runners
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
- Stroller / wheelchairReported as smooth and step-free enough for a running stroller or a chair.
