Confirmed from Box Springs Mountain Reserve's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Mountainous park featuring several trails for hiking, plus scenic spots and wild donkeys.
What runners say about Box Springs Mountain Reserve
“Great place to go hiking & the views are gorgeous.”
Love it, there are so many trails and like they're challenging or chill options. Made it from M to C and back.
If you want to feed the wild donkeys (burros), do it out in the open areas where they roam - DO NOT FEED FROM CAR WINDOWS!!! It makes these gentle creatures associate food with cars and some have been killed (as well as cars demolished) as a result of them losing fear of traffic, getting too close to the roads,…
Great place to hike for your exercise and fresh outdoor going. Bring water and snacks like oranges and grapes to stay hydrated. I I believe the trail is 3.3 mi? So be ready for a challenge. Not much parking but if you get in early there's no problem.
Start trail by 6am in summer, the sun will get you. Be patient and follow trails not raining water crevice. Great for dogs on leash and families. This is difficult not easy. Bring snacks and H2O for all I'm your party. Trek poles good.
Trail conditions & character
“You can obtain a free parking pass from a Riverside County Public Library (with a library card) and use it for up to two weeks; otherwise it's $5 per vehicle, $2 per pet.”
“Views are stupendous , the atmosphere was inviting and the experience memorable.”
“Just moved to the area so not super familiar but can anyone else confirm there may be cats living in these hills?”
“Public restrooms, tables to eat with the family, wild donkeys and more.”

- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
