Confirmed from Bronx Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Floodplain forest on an artificial island in the Bronx River, with walking trails & lookouts.
What runners say about Bronx Park
“It has beautiful places and relaxes my energy.”
Visiting Bronx River Forest through NYBG was a great experience. Great trip for people of all ages. Accessible via mass transit, Metro North, and car. Free entrance on Wednesday's. There's a vast area to take nice walks and hikes. Nice displays of nature's botanical gardens.
I like to walk with my little canine angels Vicky, Biden and Paola in the park. It has beautiful places and relaxes my energy. The snow on the river gives it a magical touch.
Easy to get to, great to walk, run, bike ride or roller skating. Spend time with family and friends...or just enjoy the weather
Located inside The Bronx zoo. Advance online reservations are now required 7 days a week. Many NYC zoos, museums, etc. are free on Wednesdays. But you still need to make advance online reservations. You will be turned away if you don’t have that ticket or bar code.
Trail conditions & character
“The forest is located closer to the Fordham Road parking lot, just south of that location.”

The practical stuff
- AccessOpen 24 hours — no gate to beat, so a 5am or a 10pm run both work
- SurfaceBoardwalk — flat and scenic, and slick when wet, so watch your footing
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
