Confirmed from Buffalo Lake Trail's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Buffalo Lake Trail

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (134 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

well-maintained 3 mentions

“Great trail system with nearly ten miles of well maintained paths.”

🏞️ beautiful scenery 6 mentions

“Nice trail network with beautiful bridges and a few benches if you are weary.”

I had forgotten how beautiful the trails here are. I can't wait for the restoration project to be finished and the lake refilled.

My version of a walking trail may differ from yours, but this is a nice, quiet trail with lots of opportunities to see abundant wildlife, even in the winter. It splits up in a few places and some trails look like they're leading you to someone's yard, but I have yet to be shot at.

★★★★★ — Rob , May 2018

Well marked 2 mile walking & biking trail around Buffalo Lake. This trail has some roots, rocks and ruts that are well suited for Mountain bikes. Relaxing trails right in town.

★★★★☆ — Marlette , Dec 2017

Great for MTB! The yellow/red loop is so amazing for excercise, filled with some fun stuff to challenge you. I also see runners and hikers enjoying it too. The only thing that confuses me, is 4 different websites claim it is 2 miles long.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

🅿️ Trailhead parking

“It's minimally maintained, very few parking spots off to the side of the road, but it doesn't have a lot of traffic, being a dead end road with only 5 or so houses farther down.”
