Confirmed from Busse Forest-West's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Picnic areas, trails, and opportunities for biking, jogging, and kayaking in a forest preserve.
What runners say about Busse Forest-West
“Beautiful spot to sip some coffee, enjoy nature, and relax (minus the traffic noise from the main road).”
“Great place for a walk, run, picnic or whatever you can think of.”
“We kayaked for more than three hours on the lake, enjoying the peace and calm, the birds, the cool water and the serene sights.”
I am a visitor and tried to find a place where I could go for a run, luckily I found this park and I really enjoyed it. The longest trail is 7.3 miles, however, it is paved. If you cannot run on a paved trail then this park must not be for you. Also, here are many bicycles and during rush hours is quite busy.
Trail at this moment is good for brisk walks, path has lot of cracks (weather might be the reason) and if you are running or jogging lookout for the cracks. No bugs, no mud, clean throughout and there are restrooms all over the trial way. Plenty of parking available at all gates.
Looks like the upkeep and maintenance is going good, people keeping areas clean too. Paths are getting seal coated, buildings are looking ok. A lot of good padding areas to explore.
Nice paved loop for a bike ride. Not too crowded during the week, yet still popular. All of the restrooms seem to be undergoing renovation so plan accordingly.
Trail conditions & character
“The view is amazing and the best part is that 75% of the trail you run under the trees that keep you cool with a fresh breeze.”
“We kayaked for more than three hours on the lake, enjoying the peace and calm, the birds, the cool water and the serene sights.”
“No bugs, no mud, clean throughout and there are restrooms all over the trial way.”
“Nicely planned and executed wish there was a bit shorter loop as an option.”
