Confirmed from Calcite Trail's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
What runners say about Calcite Trail
The Calcite Trail is an excellent trail for anyone. It has it all, some wide spaces with lots of varieties of fauna and flora. It is narrow with winding curves and several areas to rest. There are some hills and elevations in the mix as well. It's roughly an hour for the complete loop.
If you want hills and climbs then this is your place. Lots of long and often steep climbs with beautiful views. If you're a trail runner then this is the place to train for any Midwestern Ultra. Or you can race here at the Mines of Spain race.
Some trails are tricky to locate and follow, but the experience is totally worth it. They have a large variety of trails

The practical stuff
- AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
- SurfaceMixed — more than one surface along the route, so check the segment you plan to run
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- At the trailheadparking — reported by runners
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
- Stroller / wheelchairReported as smooth and step-free enough for a running stroller or a chair.
