Great starting point for hiking trails in the Mines of Spain Recreation Area. Maps and displays. Very helpful staff. Trails begin outside its doors. Parking and restrooms. Pine Trail to Mesquakie takes you towards Dubuque Monument and to Horseshoe Bluff via Calcite Tr. Great facility.
We absolutely love going to the mines of Spain! The hiking, the walks, the talks we have during the hikes! Stopping down by the river for a snack, Kayaking on Catfish Creek. Taking pictures, seeing all the nature and wildlife. Such a beautiful place to visit and a must see if you are new to the area!
This was our 1st visit here. We went into the interpretive center. Nice displays for kids. We were trying to decide on a hike. We chose the horse shoe bluff trail. Perfect, easy and beautiful. We then hiked to the monument and back to the center. Perfect.
Love all the trails and how they are long with beautiful views. You can eventually connect them all and walk the road to make a loop if you want.
