Confirmed from Cavern Rock Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
What runners say about Cavern Rock Park
“Super pretty area, I thought the trail would be longer, but it’s well marked and felt safe and I would consider an easy walk.”
“This park is perfect for you if you enjoy hiking uphill, geocaching, or climbing boulders in a very quiet park.”
Wonderful hidden ramble that makes you feel miles away from suburbia, not right in the middle of it. Old trees, rocky hills, and winding trails. Nice spot to enjoy unspoiled nature and take your dogs for a walk.
A hidden gem nestled in a neighborhood. Nice trails, lots of green and quiet.
Cavern Rock Park is a nice woodland trail with a good variety of incline/rocks in a pretty clear, well-marked loop. I did the main loop twice fairly easily. I saw dogs on the trail and elementary aged kids, so definitely doable for them, but not for strollers.
Lovely forested hillside tucked in between neighborhoods. There are lots of ledge outcrops and glacial erratics in a forest dominated by red, white and chestnut oak. White pine and hemlock, too. Lots of ups and downs to keep the heart pumping. The loop took me just under 30 minutes on my first time.

“It’s well marked and small enough to explore the “caverns” which appear to be large rocky walls.”

The practical stuff
- AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
- SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- At the trailheadparking — reported by runners
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
