Confirmed from Central Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Central Park

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (816 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

well-maintained 3 mentions

“The park is also very clean, and it has great flowers in the summer.”

🏞️ beautiful scenery 9 mentions

“Two playgrounds that have both been recently redone, many shelters, a beautiful lake to walk/bike/blade around, free music in the summer, baseball, volleyball and fishing.”

I stopped here for an afternoon walk this past week and I absolutely loved being out in nature! Check out the muskrat lodges (possibly) on the pond. The walk around the lake was the perfect length for the spare 30 minutes I had. What a great way to uplift your spirits during cold weather.

One of the best parks in the twin cities. Excellent trails and amenities that are well maintained.

This is a great park! I came here on a nice warmer December day, late afternoon and ran a loop around the lake and also did the fitness circuit around the pond in the back and then finished the loop around the lake. It was perfect for a shorter, mostly flat workout. The fitness stations were decent...

Great walking trails! Lots of activities for families and team sports. There are a couple playgrounds, picnic areas and restrooms. The park is dog-friendly and all dogs I've seen have been on leashes with their very respectful humans.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

The practical stuff

  • AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
  • SurfaceMixed — more than one surface along the route, so check the segment you plan to run
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeRunners describe real tree cover here — it makes a summer afternoon workable
  • At the trailheadparking, restrooms — reported by runners
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
  • Stroller / wheelchairReported as smooth and step-free enough for a running stroller or a chair.
