Confirmed from Charlotte Harbor Preserve State Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Shoreline nature preserve spanning 70 miles, with extensive paddle trails & hiking & birding sites.
What runners say about Charlotte Harbor Preserve State Park
“Beautiful grounds but make sure to bring the bug spray!”
“This location had multiple well marked trails that intertwined with other well marked trails.”
No words can express how awesome this place is. The scenery is amazing and the sunset is beautiful. But the best part is walking into the water and hooking up with a big snook trout or red fish and plenty other species too!!!
Came here on a Sunday before heading to the airport. Although the butterfly house wasn't open we could see some fluttering around which was nice. We then saw a tortoise roaming around before walking over to Alligator Pond where we saw a rather large alligator sunning itself. A very cool experience and wonderful visit.
Weather saved and killed it for this trip but the just plain trail and beaches were doable barefooted carrying our shoes No swamp puppies or murder ropes encountered on this hike. Love the area. Great mangroves and plenty of wildlife to explore.
The Charlotte Harbor Environmental Center at the State Park offered an immersive experience into the rich and diverse ecosystem of the Arcadia area. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted by knowledgeable staff who provided us with invaluable insights into the local flora and fauna.

The practical stuff
- AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
- SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
