We have not been able to confirm the surface, distance or shape of Chesney Prairie Natural Area yet from its own listing, the park's website or runner reviews — so those cells stay blank rather than guess. What is below comes straight from the listing and from reviewers' own words. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

🌾 quiet & peaceful 3 mentions

“Go here for a quiet, peaceful experience.”

Peace. Serenity. Nature. Go here for a quiet, peaceful experience. Take a leisurely walk around the trail that circles the prairie. Enjoy the natural beauty of prairie as it once was. Watch for Great Horned Owls in the tree line, and a variety of bird species all along the walk.

Such a stunning, peaceful place! I loved stopping to look at all the different flowers and listen to all the birds. The trails are mildly mowed but easy to walk on. There are chicken houses that you park by, but I didn’t smell anything at all from them. Photos from June 2025

Beautiful protected tall grass prairie remnant with lightly maintained trails. Great for unique birds, butterflies and plants.

I liked this trail. Chicken houses are very close in one area, but it's still a nice walk.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
