We have not been able to confirm the surface, distance or shape of Chief Shawannassee Trail yet from its own listing, the park's website or runner reviews — so those cells stay blank rather than guess. What is below comes straight from the listing and from reviewers' own words. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
What runners say about Chief Shawannassee Trail
“Muddy because of the rain but still a beautiful trail.”
Muddy because of the rain but still a beautiful trail. A few narrow, steep spots.
Always a wonderful hike! Fishing along rock creek. Use mepis in line spinner yellow #3, or a rebel floater diver crawdad. Flys use black bead head crystal bugger or brown hopper in fall.
An absolute gem. Used to hike here as a kid, and my Dad would tell us stories about the ghost of Chief Shawanasee. Not sure if that's still a local legend, but it scared me!
Better than going to the overcrowded state park or Perry Farm. Nice and quiet, good walking trails for exploring or exercising.
Trail conditions & character
“Took on the rain and mud to visit the burial spot, waterfall, and the overlook of the cave.”
