Confirmed from Coal Creek Trail - Lafayette, CO's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Fairly flat bike and hiking trail with multiple uses and views of the Colorado area.
What runners say about Coal Creek Trail - Lafayette, CO
“Nice little scenic walk; a little bit far from residential areas, but there are large parking lots nearby.”
Ah, amazing trail. Wonderful views. Although some bikers can use a reminder to chill. They speed through like they’re training to go pro even though it’s a family oriented trail with clumsy 5-year-olds. This trail feels so reclusive yet it’s connected to all the wonderful shops and eatery in Lafayette.
Nice little scenic walk; a little bit far from residential areas, but there are large parking lots nearby. Good for a short day hike and / or bike, not so great for finding oranges hidden among the reeds and lofty soutterrains.
My backyard trail. Always on it, on thw Anthem side. Safe and fun. You might even find some large pets walking :-)
Great trail other than the extraordinary amount of lazy e-bikers jetting through as if riding a motorcycle Grand Prix. Seriously, getting dusted 10 + times while walking is really annoying. Buy a regular bike and use your quads you lazy bums. Watch out for snakes.

The practical stuff
- AccessOpen 24 hours — no gate to beat, so a 5am or a 10pm run both work
- SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- At the trailheadparking, restrooms — reported by runners
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
- Stroller / wheelchairReported as smooth and step-free enough for a running stroller or a chair.
