Confirmed from Coalton Trailhead's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Popular trailhead with restrooms, picnic tables, and 2 unpaved uphill paths leading to scenic views.
What runners say about Coalton Trailhead
“Was just what i was looking for, about 25 km loop not too hard, not too easy, beautiful views and not very busy.”
“Great trails for hiking, running and biking but stay on trails and watch for rattlesnakes hiding in taller grass.”
“Excellent trail conditions for early season mountain biking as this area is wide open with little shade.”
Nicely maintained, has restrooms, normally has open parking spaces. Trail is boring going clockwise for the first few miles, yet worth the effort. Start from Marshall Mesa if you want the best bits first. No shade, so bring extra water.
Excellent trail conditions for early season mountain biking as this area is wide open with little shade. Lots of rolling double & single track 👍
Really nice trail with some double and single track. Great views of the flat irons and lots of wild flowers.
I love this trailhead, some of the best views in the area. The trail splits immediately in two, one that leads west up a long hill towards unobstructed views of the FlatIrons, the other snakes north until eventually going north to connect to the Marshall trailhead.

“It isn't super challenging from a terrain perspective, but it is 15+ miles around the loop, so it's good for longer distance burdened hiking.”
