Confirmed from Coconut Point Sanctuary's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Nature preserve offering hiking trails, boardwalks over wetlands, and beach, plus sunset views.
What runners say about Coconut Point Sanctuary
“Several well maintained hiking trails bordering the Indian River showcasing dune, coastal strand, and oak hammock.”
“soft sandy trails and hard board walk with great view of the tropical jungle and wildlife, as well as the lagoon and beach.”
“The middle 1/3 of the hike is a shaded maritime hammock among tropical plants.”
Excellent place to come and explore nature. Large variety of Florida native plants (over 100 species) and animals (33 species of birds, 18 species of reptiles). Easy to spot keystone species such as the Gopher tortoise, its den, and its favorite food source (see picture).
The entrance across from the Juan Ponce parking lot. There was no shade till the rd for the SeaWorld place DONT TRESSPASS. Other then that it was a nice walk. Saw tortoise at the rd. Didnt see any gators in the swampy area. Nice hike. It is 1.0 if you count the walk back to the parking lot.
Wonderful sanctuary. Mile hike or walk between the ocean and Banana River. Flowers adorn scrub area year round. Small oak hammock. Several overlooks over water, sunrise and sunset.
From the parking lot at Juan Ponce de Leon park and around the trail we walked about 1.25 miles. I expected the trail to just go through low growing scrub but was delighted to enter woodland and walk on boardwalks over wetlands. There is a beautiful stopoff that overlooks the river.
