Confirmed from Columbia Canal and Riverfront Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Old pump houses shed light on the canal works amid natural hiking & biking trails & picnic tables.

Awesome trail with a wild surprise! Columbia Canal and Riverfront Park is one of my favorite spots to run. The trail is smooth, scenic, and perfect for a peaceful workout or walk. You get a mix of nature, water views, and history all in one place. What made my last visit unforgettable?
The park was beautiful! It was a great exploration for our family. We saw many rangers cleaning up, but none of them were at the historical sights or informative. We did our own self-guided tour of the engines and canals. Overall it was a beautiful day out and a nice walk.
Nice place to stop by good for a walk , bike or a run. The view on both sides is peaceful with water flowing on its way. Lots of benches to relax or read a book. They have hammock stand just bring you hammock and enjoy the water sound or take a nap. They have clean restrooms available. Plenty of parking space.
The trail is very nice and maintained, it was very busy this Saturday morning. You will find plenty of spots to hang your hammocks, it is the perfect spot to relax and read a book. Plenty of opportunity to see some wildlife (lots of turtles). Bathrooms are available & clean!

Plan your run at Columbia Canal and Riverfront Park
The practical stuff
- AccessDawn to dusk — the gates close, so do not plan a run that finishes after dark
- SurfaceMixed — more than one surface along the route, so check the segment you plan to run
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- LightingRunners report lights on the path — useful for pre-dawn and after-work miles. Lighting and opening hours are separate things, so check both.
- At the trailheadparking, restrooms, water — reported by runners
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
- Stroller / wheelchairReported as smooth and step-free enough for a running stroller or a chair.
