Confirmed from Cougar Mountain Indian Trail's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Cougar Mountain Indian Trail

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (29 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 3 mentions

“Beautiful heavily forested natural hiking area within minutes of congestion and traffic.”

PARKING: If you are trying to find a place to park because you've realized the street by the trailhead has no parking, go back down to Licorice Fern Trail Crossing and park at the trailhead there. That trail is about eight tenths of a mile and will meet up with Cougar Mountain Indian Trail.

I was happy somebody left some sticks by the trailhead. The trails were maintained. There were some muddy spots, and you definitely need to watch your footing in some areas. The Doughty Falls were beautiful.

★★★★★ — Lisa , Mar 2023

Nice place to hike. As easy or difficult as you make it. Lots of inter looping trails

★★★★★ — Brent , Jan 2022

It's a nice little trail if you are looking to get a walk in the forest with your kids or just otherwise too. It's has nice meadows, moss on the rocks and trees. There a system of well laid out and marked trails, streams and a waterfall too.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

🅿️ Trailhead parking 19 mentions

“Minimal parking, trail signs are a bit hard to read, trail is well maintained and mostly shaded.”

🏞️ Scenic views 5 mentions

“There isn't much for views but it at least keeps you shaded so if you're going on a hot day, it won't be so bad.”

  • AccessDawn to dusk — the gates close, so do not plan a run that finishes after dark
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
