Confirmed from Coyote Peak's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Coyote Peak

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (24 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 7 mentions

“Beautiful views of the Bay Area and the adjoining hills at the top.”

Coyote Peak is a beautiful place with great views. We saw many cows and calves enjoying the newly grown grass along the trail, and also saw a few deer in the valley. Some of the slopes are a bit steep, there are many small rocks on the trail, some of them look like the marbled beef. Some people ride bicycles here.

★★★★★ — Lei , Jan 2025

Beautiful views of the Bay Area and the adjoining hills at the top. If the hills are green, a must do hike in south San Jose.

★★★★★ — Sriram , Apr 2023

Easy hike to get a clear 360° views of Santa Clara county. Watch out for speeding mountain bikers.

★★★★★ — Phong , Nov 2022

It's a good view point only 2-3 mile hike from the golf course. There are some benches to sit and watch the sun set over the hills and look at the Bay Area from a bird's eye view. The hike down can be a little treacherous due to loose stones and dirt. We also saw some deer during the hike.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

🏞️ Scenic views 18 mentions

“Really awesome view on a clear day, and very rewarding as the hike is not terribly challenging either.”
