Confirmed from Darlington Trail's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Area with kid-friendly hiking trails and marked geocaches.
What runners say about Darlington Trail
“Well maintained relatively level track good for runners, walkers and outdoor enthusiasts.”
“I imagine the fall will be beautiful along this route”
“The paths are well-shaded and block out the hot sun making the path fairly cool.”
“The trail is well marked.”
A beautiful place to walk. I've only been once and it's already one of my favorite trails in the area. Autumn is a perfect time to visit, if you're a fungus enthusiast, because I found mushrooms all over the place! I started from the Darlington Trailhead Parking Area.
Well maintained relatively level track good for runners, walkers and outdoor enthusiasts. Visited in high summer and trees offered refreshing shade. I imagine the fall will be beautiful along this route
This hike is very straightforward. Most of the time you will be walking on a path through the woods, with knee-high vegetation on both sides of the trail. It’s a fairly straight trail so you can choose how far you want to go. The paths are well-shaded and block out the hot sun making the path fairly cool.
Darlington Trail was darling. Rocky in parts. Cool trees here and there. One view of the valley. Wide open trail most of the way. Moderate difficulty. Plenty of parking. Lot is on the right when you come from Wertsville Rd. Really enjoyed hiking it. Will explore some side trails next time.
Trail conditions & character
“I give the hike 4 stars because there were two dead animals in the parking lot, so many flys and smell, but hence nature does not care about 5 star experience.”
“That section starts off as gravel, and it's a bit of uphill walking, but once you get to the top (where the cell towers are) it turns to nice, flat dirt.”
“I imagine the fall will be beautiful along this route”
“A little muddy and icy but nothing near as messy as hiking the AT from Berheisel bridge road or Sherwood drive.”
“We had about 600 feet of elevation change hiking from Lambs gap 2 &1/2 miles toward Millers gap and back again.”
“The paths are well-shaded and block out the hot sun making the path fairly cool.”
