Confirmed from Dead Man's Hollow Conservation Area's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Dead Man's Hollow Conservation Area

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (469 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 5 mentions

“Gorgeous hike, loved the waterfall and all the little flowers blooming.”

🪧 well-marked 5 mentions

“The bad: Trails aren't well marked and there are a million little off shoot trails to confuse you.”

🌾 quiet & peaceful 3 mentions

“It's a nice way to escape the city and it feels remote once you're in the hollow, sometimes even a little creepy which I liked.”

The good: Lots of trails. We parked at Boston Ball Field, walked the GAP trail to the hollow and walked pretty much every main trail there. My Garmin watch logged ~10 miles. Didn't see a single other person until we were walking out. Very secluded.

Sad to see all the negative reviews that have nothing to do with this place or are a result of people not knowing what they are doing. That said, I can only speak for the trailhead on Calhoun Rd. It looks like it may have been updated recently with a new map. It's easy to understand.

Gorgeous hike, loved the waterfall and all the little flowers blooming. It was very easy to follow with clear markers.

Lots of great trails and places to explore. Trails are well blazed and the map is helpful. We like to park at Boston Bridge park and walk on the a Great Allegheny Passage trail to the the entrance where the Industrial Ruins is close by. We’ve also parked near Catfish Pond and enjoyed the trails there.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

🏞️ Scenic views 12 mentions

“The stream was barely a trickle which resulted in a lackluster waterfall.”
