Confirmed from Great Allegheny Passage - Boston Trailhead's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Great Allegheny Passage - Boston Trailhead

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (360 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 3 mentions

“Beautiful and quiet walking/biking trail along the GAP.”

🌾 quiet & peaceful 7 mentions

“It's such a peaceful serene trail which can lead you either down towards downtown Pittsburgh or you can go.”

Bike rental nearby(it's growing, getting more bikes too) short and long term parking here. Chemical toilets and two food places right next to trailhead (one is typical old school den/bar) There's even a B&B next to the trail. More like a guesthouse with rooms for 3-5 people.

★★★★★ — Doug , Aug 2018

Nice hike, some key features are an off trail waterfall, a pond, some old building ruins. And if you believe in such things (I don't) some haunting. Plus a tunnel to walk through.

★★★★★ — Danny , Mar 2023

Nice access point on the GAP Trail. Restrooms and restaurants are nearby and parking is plentiful.

★★★★★ — Peter , May 2021

Beautiful and quiet walking/biking trail along the GAP. DEAD man's trail has some interesting information boards with history of that part of the trail.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
