Confirmed from Decker Lake Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Flat park and trail destination known for bird-watching, wildlife and boat races.
What runners say about Decker Lake Park
“Noticed allot of housing has gone up in the area since but the park is well maintained and clean.”
Nice trail to walk around in a metropolitan area. Can't complain too much. Birds are cool to watch
Great area to jog and great view of the surrounding 360 degree views of the salt lake valley
Is not a lot of people there, and the dogs can be a little more free to explore, warning with the mosquitoes there are clouds of them, make sure you spray if you are walking in the evening.
Decker Lake is a pleasant and less well-known escape in the middle of west valley city. It used to be much larger and was often sailed on but has since been downsized. The south side of the lake has ample parking and a grass lawn that stretches from the road to the lake.
Trail conditions & character
“Lots of birds, fishing, covered picnic tables, benches, portable restroom, large grassy area, plenty of parking.”

“There is a packed gravel walking path along the perimeter of the lake and an even smaller path closer to the shore.”

The practical stuff
- AccessDawn to dusk — the gates close, so do not plan a run that finishes after dark
- SurfaceMixed — more than one surface along the route, so check the segment you plan to run
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- At the trailheadparking, restrooms — reported by runners
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
- Stroller / wheelchairReported as smooth and step-free enough for a running stroller or a chair.
