Confirmed from Dequindre Cut's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Largely below street level, this 2-mile greenway offers urban art plus pedestrian & biking lanes.
What runners say about Dequindre Cut
“The trail is well-maintained and well-lit, making it safe for daytime and evening strolls.”
“If you wanted to extend your walk you could easily continue down the riverfront walkway which is beautiful.”
A must visit! I love taking my dog here and parking near Eastern Market (free lot very close to the Mack entrance) and walking to the riverfront. If you wanted to extend your walk you could easily continue down the riverfront walkway which is beautiful.
Love this place! We usually come down here and take a walk or maybe even use the scooters or bikes. Lots of cool art work and a long stretch leading right out to the river walk and much more. They also have the fright yard where you can stop to relax grab drinks and sometimes even food. Highly recommended!!
I love this hidden Detroit gem!!! It’s a great starting point for the many paved paths Detroit offers. I like the entry point at Eastern Market for its free parking, nearby eats, & market. Overall the cut is a fun journey through the old train corridor.
A nice pedestrian walk & cycle pathway located just outside of downtown Detroit proper. Its just under 2 miles oneway and runs from Atwater St to Mack Ave with 4 entry/exits along the way. Its a nice stroll, run, or cycle in decent weather. Try it!

The practical stuff
- AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
- SurfacePaved — asphalt or concrete. Fast and predictable, runnable year-round, and fine with a stroller
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- LightingRunners report lights on the path — useful for pre-dawn and after-work miles. Lighting and opening hours are separate things, so check both.
- At the trailheadparking, restrooms — reported by runners
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
