Me and my family have been coming here for a few years and absolutely love it. We're glad the visitor center is open as the volunteers inside are extremely nice and helpful. The crowds aren't as big as they should be but that makes the current experience even more enjoyable.
The sign says the Old Forest Growth Trail is muddy and it definitely is. The shorter walk on the boardwalk is also beautiful. They have lovely sitting chairs (rocking chairs!) closer to the Wildlife Refuge Center. They have a bike repair station, too. This is a lovely newish place to walk in the area.
A great place for a nice hike and spending a beautiful day by the river hiking, bird watching. The interpretive visitor center is wonderful. Trails are well maintained, they do get muddy in wet weather. Spotting bald eagles are certain. Carry a good camera and binoculars to spot the nests and the birds.
Great outdoor activity. Totally free of cost. The visitor center is very interesting especially for little ones. The staff is pleasant and friendly and answered all questions. You can borrow for free, binoculars and fishing rod. There are two trails, one short and other longer about 2 miles.
